About Us
In March and April 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database Project. The
idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky where collected databases would be stored. In
additon, these databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one
county, they could be located in the index.
Volunteers were found for Ohio who were willing to coordinate the collection of data and generally oversee the contents of the web site for each county within the state. There are National guidelines, then state guidelines and then county guidelines which must be followed to keep the spirit of "free genealogy provided on the internet". If you have a desire to add your information to the county site's data contact the volunteer host cited on the county site.
You may notice a message beside the county listing indicating it is available for adoption. This means that the current county coordinator is looking for a replacement host. If you would like to adopt a web site for an available county, please read the county host requirements information, then contact the State Coordinator with your interest.
This Summit County OHGenWeb site is an extension of that premise.
The OHGenWeb and this county page are both a culmination of the time and effort of those many volunteers.
Thank you to the long time Coordinator for this County, Mary Ann Hetrick.
